Cre8tive Reviews Interviews John King at JUGFEST 14! Audio

If you have been to our blog before, or visited our twitter, you have heard us mention an amazing new singer named John King. We first heard about John after the release of his EP, titled “Something in the water” from Black River Entertainment in 2013. Every song on this EP is well written, catchy and lyrically awesome. We have become supporters and fans from the start.

So, imagine our delight when we found out about Jugfest and saw that John King was going to be there. And just like we thought, the John King band didn’t disappoint. The crowd loved the entire set, and especially loved the catchy track “Huk’r Shoes” which King even warned the crowd was catchy and would stick in their heads all day. One of his fans on Facebook made that comment later that day when she posted online “Thank you, it was a great show. You were correct, Huk’r Shoes was stuck in our heads the rest of the night!”

Before his set, John King spent time meeting fans and signing autographs. Often, this part of a concert is what fans remember most. It’s always great to see the artists reach out to their fans and spend time chatting with them. Based on the feedback online from those fans, they not only enjoyed Johns personality but his performance as well.

John is currently promoting the single “Tonight Tonight,” a catchy soon to be hit that got the audience singing along. We can’t wait to hear this single climb the charts and for this hard-working singer from Georgia to get the accolades he deserves. His band members are equally as talented and the combination of their harmonies, vocals, energy and musical talent is a force to be reckoned with.

Jugfest 2014 a Huge Success for 106.7 Kjug Radio!

Cre8tive Reviews along with over 18,000 country music fans spent last Saturday at an amazing concert! Jugfest 2014 was held Saturday May 31, 2014 at Plaza Park in Visalia. The gates opened at 1, and the show started at 3pm but loyal and excited fans waited in line starting at 10:30am for their chance to see five amazing acts.

John King Band, Jamie Lynn Spears, Collin Raye, Frankie Ballard and ACM New Artist Award Winner Justin Moore took to the stage for this FREE concert. The thing that we loved about this concert series in the park is the acoustic style of the performances. Most of the artists were able to showcase their singing talent without the large band behind them and the crowd loved it! Justin Moore was the last act of the night and he had his entire band with him along with his massive tour bus and multiple guitars.

We were privileged to capture photos of the event, and interview some of the singers before and after their set. One of our team members, Paul Breski, was the official photographer for the event – and quite a few of his photos have been featured on the Facebook pages of KJUG Radio, John King, Jamie Lynn Spears and Frankie Ballard.

Before John King started off the show he was out mingling with the fans and signing autographs, and posing for pictures. He performed songs from his new CD and the crowd really enjoyed his energy and vocals. One of the crowds favorites was “Huk’r Shoes” and his new single “Tonight Tonight.”

Jamie Lynn Spears was next and she did not disappoint the crowd! Her vocals were spot on, and hearing her acoustically proved she was for real. One fan even told us “They should not call her Britney’s sister, cause she can sing and hold her own as an amazing singer!”

Our buddy, Frankie Ballard started his set while sitting on bar stools, but that didn’t last long. His high energy show got himself, and the crowd up out of their chairs. His upbeat single “Helluvalife” got the crowd singing and he even found his way into the audience to sing with his fans. He even found a few kids to help him sing “Old Time Rock’n Roll” by Bob Seger on stage with him. He followed up that song with his new single “Sunshine and Whiskey.”

Collin Raye took the stage next and performed his classic hits like “Little Red Rodeo” and “Little Rock” to name a few. He has written a new book called “Is country music dead.” If you get a chance to pick up a copy, it’s an interesting read.

I felt it went extremely well. It was out biggest one yet. The number we have is around 18,000 listeners attended . All the artists loved playing it and the crowd was fantastic.

I see your station is getting ready for your yearly Summer Series in Exeter CA, Tulare CA and Hanford CA. Would you like to share any of the artist with us that going to be there for your Free Summer Shows?

It’s actually now called the KJUG Free Concert Series, but yes, we’ll have 4 at Exeter City Park, 1 at Tulare Outlet Center, and 3 at the Hanford Civic Auditorium. We’ve announced the first four show today in Exeter.

It wasn’t a “Friday night” but the crowd didn’t mind when Eric Paslay played a small bar called Bullfrog’s in Kingsburg Ca. Country radio station 102.7 FM The Wolf hosted the event.  Eric met some of his fans backstage through the meet and greet and took time with each fan to sign & pose for pictures. Eric then took the stage for his acoustic performance. The crowd went wild as excited fans delighted in this up close and personal show.

Eric played songs from this current self-titled CD “Eric Paslay” and also sang some songs that he has co-wrote with the likes of Jake Owen’s “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”, Eli Young Band’s “Even If It Breaks Your Heart”, and Love & Theft’s “Angel Eyes.” All of which were number 1 singles on the country charts. He has written Rascal Flatts single “Rewind” that just went #1. The crowds favorites where “Friday Night & “Song About A Girl” which is his current single.

His current CD showcase’s feelings of joy, faith and all around good times. Another favorite of ours was “She don’t love you,” a song that evokes pure and raw emotion. His vocals were spot on, and powerful and his acoustical performance was not one to miss. Plus, he has a sweet beard.

21st annual Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival April 24-27

imageCre8tive Reviews had the pleasure of attending the 21st annual Cowboy Festival this past weekend in Santa Clarita.  The event was held at Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio in addition to the pre-events that’s were held throughout the city and western walk of stars.

The event hosted more than 10,000 people over the course of three days and offered the general public an exclusive look at the 22 acre studio where such legendary films as Django Unchained, Dukes of Hazzard, Deadwood, and Magnificent Seven have been filmed to name a few. The motion picture museum full of props from several of these shows were open to the public and included one of the original General Lee cars from the Dukes of Hazzard tv show.

People attended the event in full costume, and it was hard to tell who actually belonged to the ranch and who was just a guest. There was gold panning, wool spinning, games, and shows for the kids in addition to shops boasting the best in western handmade jewelry, costume designers, and fashions. Not to mention the most amazing peach cobbler we’ve ever tried. Imagine, peach cobbler baked in a Dutch oven to perfection and topped with whipped cream….yummy…now if only they added ice cream to it.

image

We also had the pleasure of seeing legendary cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell perform. What an amazing performance, even with they few slip ups that he laughed off, he made the audience laugh and captivated their imagination with his words. One highlight was his poem about buying his wife a bra. If you haven’t heard it before, do yourself a favor and listen. photo4

Following Waddie Mitchell on Saturday was country music legend Don Edwards, who in his mid 70s sings better than most a third of his age. His vocals were strong, his guitar perfection. What impressed us the most was his yodeling. We were a little disappointed that he didn’t sing “Coyotes” but very pleased with the rest of the show. Mitchell and Edwards, long time friends teamed up on a few songs as well.

I heard a few people talking at the event on the attendance and how it has grown from the previous year. More than likely its there stellar line up of performers they had this year, in addition to the event and location itself. One complaint we (and several others) had were the food situation. With as large of an event as it was, they had maybe 7 food vendors total and seating for about 100 people. We waited in line for 30 minutes for BBQ before opting to jump into the taco line instead which we presumed to be shorter. An hour later in the hot sun, the empty beer and margarita lines were enough for us to consider a liquid diet but we held our ground and finally got our food. Other than that, this was an event you definitely don’t want to miss next year!
